Somatic Zone Cartography

How family, team, residents and other participants move through and experience the same shared spaces differently — routed, photographed and interpreted through the Somatic Zoning Lab.

Mapping in progress. Field data from the Somatic Zoning Lab hasn't been collected and coded yet. This page shows the framework and the four preset zones the mapping will use. Once routes, somatic responses and photographs are gathered and reviewed, this page will be updated with the real, permissioned cartography — never invented or placeholder data presented as findings.

The four preset zones

Every participant walks the same route through zones A–D, answering the same prompt at each stop, before choosing a personally meaningful fifth place.

Community archetypes

Six ways of belonging to Cascina Lago Scuro. Every participant identifies the archetype closest to them before mapping their route — any community group can hold any archetype.

Place affinity
The Gravitator

Repeatedly drawn to a particular space at the Cascina, whether to rest, move, connect, or simply be there.

Commerce relationship
The Exchange Maker

Connects through a functional business exchange — supplying, producing, purchasing or providing a service.

Family
The Family

Connected through family life and kinship, whose daily presence and relationships shape its continuity.

Kitchen team
The Nourisher

Work in the Cascina kitchen helps prepare and share food as part of daily community life.

Agriculture team
The Cultivator

Tends the Cascina's land, crops, or growing practices as part of its daily and seasonal life.

Community visitor
The Converger

Arrives through a visit, event, or shared activity and joins its community life for a time.

How the cartography will be built

Present outcome (target). A physical map of individual twine routes, significant places, mini photographs, and participant accounts. Points of convergence and disagreement become visible.

Future outcome. A living cartography that can be revisited to see how bodily experience and use of space change over time.

Each participant's fifth place ("Place E") is entirely their own choice, named and documented in their own words — never inferred or assigned on their behalf.
